I have spent half of my life in recording studios. This is one being torn down so the land can be part of a shopping mall. I think the Carpenters recorded here, I don’t know who else did. Recording at home is fun, but there is nothing like recording in one of the old Hollywood recording studios. There is a certain allure the walls and ceilings and floors have because they have absorbed so much great music. In the hands of musicians and sound engineers you love, songs can turn all kinds of colors you didn’t expect them to. There is the pressure of time because you are paying by the hour or day or night. The trick is to forget you are on the clock so you can give it your best while knowing you don’t have all the time in the world.
